For many years I've wanted to write a book but I never knew what I wanted to say. I didn't think I had a story to tell that people would actually want to read. Over the past decade I've have grown into an adult and the past six years have given me a story to share. I've never wanted to do what others are doing but when you are surrounded by purpose-driven people you're bound to share some of the same ideas. Every direction I look lies authors and writers who have inspired me to put my thoughts and experiences on paper. So, I am proud to announce that I am officially authoring my first book available later this year! Read more for an exclusive look at the book cover and an excerpt from the book #newbeginnings #lifeinwait Let’s begin our journey through this story of waiting with some background. I was born in July 1982 in Philadelphia, PA into a generation in flux. The Millennials. Generation Y. The first group to benefit from the fights for equality that laced the previous decades without actually having to fight ourselves. Able to go to desegregated schools and mingle with the children of the privileged without hateful stares and protests; the start of Dr. King’s dream. We had respect for the sacrifices made by our elders that gave us greater opportunity yet we were spoiled by our parents’ ability to achieve. We saw the rise of technology by learning to type on computers with pea-green screens instead of typewriters that ding when you get to the end of the page. We witnessed the transition of television channels going off at night with the waving of the American flag to the 24/7/365 availability of cable TV. Millennials are shown to have decreased rates of marriage, increased length of time living at home with parents, decreased job longevity, and increased median salaries. We are stuck between hard work and appreciation for open opportunities and the expectation for instant gratification and return for our work. We ARE a generation in flux. Being born into this generation set the stage for my life as it shaped my experiences and provided a level of expectation for how things should go in my life. This expectation would be the foundation for the start of my Christian walk as an adult. The juxtaposition that characterizes the Millennial generation has permeated almost every aspect of my life. I am a contradiction in so many ways yet somehow it all comes together in one fabulously unique package. I am an outgoing introvert who must retreat to recharge after willfully spending hours socializing with others. I am an advocate for marriage who continues to struggle with the idea of getting married despite a deep desire to be a wife and mother. The only child of a mother who longed for a household with 10 children, the youthful counselor of many with greater years but no wisdom, the mediator in conflict, the voice of reason in a moment of confusion, the transparent yet overly private close friend to many who somehow draws even strangers to share their problems while having very few with whom I can share mine. This is my Life in Wait…
