An exhibit at the NC Museum of History teaches visitors about the history of North Carolina through the eyes of junior historians. Geared towards children, the exhibit has bright colors, lots of things to touch, and dioramas made by kids with everyday things you can find at home. Right in the middle of this kid-friendly history lesson is a very adult statement: “The past is every moment before this one”. How profound! Sometimes it takes looking through the eyes of a child to make something complicated seem so simple. “The past” holds so many of us back in so many ways that many often never recover from it. Past experiences are often the root of struggles with depression, alcohol and drug addiction, low self-esteem, and negative thinking but if we just recognize the value of each new moment we could move on. If we considered each unpleasant moment as the past and every present moment as a NEW past we could see that we have the power to recreate our history. Each moment you live is an opportunity to create a new past. So, when something happens that you don’t like, fix it in your mind to make the next moment better. And then the next moment, and the next moment, until your past becomes what you want it to be rather than what happened to you. Think Positive. Think Legacy.
