Did you know that there is great power between your ears? No, I’m not talking about the electrical currents firing across the neurons of your physical brain; I am talking about your mind. Your mind is a powerful tool, one of the most useful tools you will ever use. Within it is both the path to great success and the potential for great failure; it all depends on how you use it. For decades scientists have studied the mind and its impact on our lives continues to be researched even today. Studies have shown that our thoughts have the ability not just to dictate our actions but also to actually alter our physical bodies. Recently, psychologists at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill found that certain nerves in the brain operate more effectively in people who practice positive thinking. Other studies have even shown that positive thinking and optimism improve the effectiveness of medical treatments for a range of different ailments, even chronic illnesses such as cancer. How cool would it be if we could really THINK ourselves well; to some degree, we can. Have you ever heard of the Law of Attraction? It’s an ancient concept that has become more and more popular over that past several years. The concept is simple: Ask, Believe, Receive. The idea is that your thoughts draw things to you so whatever things you think about are what you “attract”. For example: if you are constantly thinking about being in debt more debt comes because you are attracting it. This idea makes a lot of sense but is not so easy to control. In fact, I’m still working on it myself and I learned about it some years ago. But why is it so hard to put this idea to use? Why are we so drawn to think on the things we don’t want in our lives? It’s all in the mind. Past experiences and disappointments have a way of robbing us of our futures. We can get so caught up in the way things happened last time that we can’t even imagine things working in our favor this time. Our minds become overwhelmed with so much negativity that positive thoughts have no room to grow. So, I challenge you today to transform your mind one thought at a time. Every time a negative thought creeps (i.e. worry, doubt, fear) IMMEDIATELY replace it with a positive thought and think on that instead. I suggest you prepare a few “happy thoughts” ahead of time so you don’t find yourself searching for one when you need it. Take control of your mind so it doesn’t control you. Remember how powerful it is and use that power to your advantage.
